Vinyl color chips broadcast into a fresh epoxy or polyaspartic base coat and sealed with a clear topcoat. The most popular garage floor finish across Chattanooga.
Full-Broadcast Coverage | Dozens of Color Blends | Slip-Resistant Texture
A flake floor in Chattanooga is built as a three-layer system. First, the slab is diamond ground, cracks and joints are repaired, and the concrete is moisture tested. Second, an epoxy or polyaspartic base coat is rolled across the floor at the spec rate. Within the working time of the resin, vinyl color flakes are broadcast by hand into the wet base coat. We broadcast to refusal, meaning we keep throwing flake until the floor will not take any more. Once the base cures, the loose flake is scraped down and vacuumed away. The remaining bonded flake is then sealed under a clear topcoat that locks everything in and provides the gloss.
Three reasons. First, it looks great in almost any garage. The full-coverage flake gives the floor a speckled, stone-like read that complements both modern and traditional homes. Second, the flake creates real texture under the topcoat, which provides slip resistance and hides scratches better than a solid color finish. Third, the flake camouflages minor slab issues that show through a clear or solid coating, like patched cracks, color variations in the original pour, and small repair work. For most homeowners, the flake floor is the finish that does the most for the money.
Flake comes in different sizes from 1/16" small flakes to 1/4" wide flakes. Wider flake reads bolder from a distance and works well in larger garages. Smaller flake reads as a finer speckled stone. Color blends are layered combinations of two to five colors that the manufacturer pre-mixes, and we stock a wide range. Most Chattanooga homeowners pick a blend that ties into the trim or stone color on the house exterior. We bring physical samples to every estimate so you can hold them up to your floor and walls before deciding.
Flake systems are the workhorse mid-tier finish. Standard flake floors run roughly $5 to $9 per square foot installed in Chattanooga, with a two-car garage falling between $2,400 and $4,500 depending on slab condition, flake density, and topcoat selection. Our written quote breaks out every line item.
The flake system can be installed with either an epoxy or polyaspartic base. See our epoxy garage floor coating page for the most popular configuration, or polyaspartic coating if you want a one-day install. For a higher-end decorative look, see metallic epoxy.
We install flake garage floors across the Chattanooga metro, including East Ridge, Red Bank, and Soddy-Daisy. See the full service areas page.
